Costly Theft at National Sports Collectors Convention

The final day of the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland took a dark turn when a sports card dealer from New Jersey reported a significant theft from his vehicle. The dealer fell victim to a staggering $275,000 theft of cash, along with two iPads, on Sunday, July 28.

The unfortunate incident unfolded at the I-X Center as the 48-year-old dealer was in the process of loading his SUV post-event. The stolen cash had been stored in a black briefcase along with the iPads inside the vehicle. Despite believing that he had securely locked his SUV, the dealer discovered that the briefcase had been snatched while he was momentarily away.

Cleveland Police First District detectives provided crucial details, sharing that the black briefcase, equipped with an air tag, was eventually located on the I-X Center premises. Regrettably, the substantial sum of cash that was housed within the briefcase was nowhere to be found.

Law enforcement officials are actively on the lookout for two suspects observed fleeing the scene in a blue Honda Odyssey van. Individuals who may have pertinent information regarding the theft are strongly urged to reach out to the First District Detective Unit at (216) 623-5118 or utilize the Crime Stoppers tip line at (216) 252-7463.
