Legendary Mickey Mantle 1953 World Series Bat Up for Auction

A piece of baseball history is set to make waves at Heritage Auctions as an iconic relic from Mickey Mantle’s legendary career hits the market. This historic artifact, a game-used bat from Mantle’s stellar performance during the 1953 World Series, is not just any ordinary piece of sports equipment; it carries with it a rich backstory that adds depth to its already significant historical value.

The tale of this remarkable bat traces back to early 1954 when Mantle, alongside his fellow players Allie Reynolds and Bobby Morgan, made a special appearance at the Oklahoma City YMCA Junior Baseball banquet. At this event, where community spirit and baseball passion collided, the bat in question was presented as a prize. Young baseball enthusiast Robert Nance emerged as the lucky winner of this coveted piece after making substantial contributions as one of the top ticket sellers for the banquet.

This unique K55 model bat, measuring 35.5 inches in length and weighing just under 34 ounces, has been meticulously graded PSA/DNA GU 10 for both its excellent condition and impeccable authenticity. What sets this bat apart is Mantle’s personal connection to it, as he himself disclosed to Nance that he wielded this very bat during the historic 1953 World Series. The bat bears the paint streaks acquired from the Yankee Stadium dugout, serving as a tangible link to Mantle’s stellar performance during that championship series.

Mantle’s remarkable feats with this bat during the 1953 World Series included smashing two home runs against the formidable Brooklyn Dodgers, with one of them marking his only grand slam in postseason play. These triumphant moments on the field significantly contributed to the New York Yankees securing their fifth consecutive World Series title, solidifying Mantle’s place in baseball history.

The bat’s provenance is further strengthened by a letter penned by Nance, recounting the heartfelt moment when Mantle personally handed over the bat to him. This personal touch adds an emotional layer to the bat’s historical significance. In addition, renowned PSA/DNA bat expert John Taube has validated the bat’s usage in the 1953 season through meticulous inspection of factory ordering records, highlighting its exceptional condition marked by numerous ball marks, stitch impressions, and blue rack streaks.

Described by Heritage Auctions as “unquestionably one of the finest Mantle bats ever to appear on the hobby’s auction block,” this extraordinary piece of baseball memorabilia is garnering considerable attention from collectors and enthusiasts alike. With the auction slated to conclude on Friday, May 17, interested bidders have a limited window to stake their claim on owning this priceless artifact. Anticipated to fetch a price well into six figures, the bat’s historical significance and sentimental value make it a highly sought-after item in the world of sports memorabilia.
